📰 Sendico News: Important Update on U.S. Tariffs & Tax Payment Rules 🇺🇸

Dear Sendico Customers,

As many of our American customers are aware, there have been major changes regarding tariff rates, de-minimis shipments, and tax payment rules for imports into the United States. In this post we aim to clarify any questions you may have, and inform you of some temporary changes that need to be made during this transitional period.

📊 Tariff Rates

• Tariff rates now vary between 0–50% depending on item type.
• The types of items most commonly purchased by Sendico customers typically fall within the 15% category, but occasionally will be included in the 30% range.

💰 Shift from DDU → DDP

Taxes are shifting from DDU (payment upon delivery) to DDP (payment prior to shipping).

This new structure is unprecedented, and at present, couriers cannot fully predict the exact cost of taxes, processing fees, and other charges. Fedex have informed us that we should anticipate that the next 3 months will be especially unpredictable in this regard.

✅ Sendico’s Strategy for Fairness & Transparency

To keep this process as fair and clear as possible, we will follow this flow:

1. When shipping a parcel to the U.S., Sendico will hold 20% of the parcel’s declared value in “pending funds.”
2. Parcel arrives in the U.S.
3. The courier is billed for import taxes by the U.S. government.
4. The courier provides us with the official tax bill and certificate of proof of payment.
5. Sendico uses your pending funds to pay the bill.
6. Any unused funds will be refunded to you, along with the proof of tax payment from the courier which will include a full itemization of per-item charges.

📦 Storage Extension Options

For customers who prefer to avoid this uncertainty, or for those who feel an upfront 20% hold is too costly, we are happy to offer extended storage for items and parcels until after this transitional period ends.
