🇺🇸📢USA Shipments Update: Changes to Our Tariff Hold System 20% -> 16%+
After several months of operating under the current tariff hold system, we’ve now gathered enough real-world data to make a more informed adjustment.
To help reduce the financial strain on our U.S. customers, we’re pleased to announce that we are lowering our tariff hold amount from 20% to a dynamic structure based at 16%. Read more below to understand:
🔄 What’s Changing?
We’re introducing a refined system that better reflects the actual costs charged by FedEx and U.S. Customs:
✅ New Tariff Hold Structure
1. Base Tariff Hold
- We will now hold 16% of the total parcel value as a base amount.
2. MIDF (Multi-Item Declaration Fee)
- If a single shipment includes more than 3 HS codes on the commercial invoice, FedEx applies a USD 3.50 fee per additional HS code, starting from the 4th code.
- To account for this, we will hold an additional ¥600 per HS code (after the first 3) upfront.
To avoid incurring this charge, we recommend creating parcels which are grouped by type. Sending in this way can greatly reduce the number of HS codes.
3. MPF (Merchandise Processing Fee)
- If the commercial invoice value exceeds ¥350,000, an additional 0.34% of the total parcel value will be held upfront.
💰 Refunds & Adjustments (No Change)
- If the total hold amount (base tariff + MIDF + MPF) exceeds the actual amount charged by FedEx, any unused funds will be returned to your account (typically after around 3 months).
- In the unlikely event that the final charges exceed the original hold, the remaining balance will be billed directly from your Sendico wallet.
We’ll continue to closely monitor invoices and make further adjustments where possible to keep this process as fair, transparent, and customer-friendly as we can.
Thank you for your patience and continued support 🙏
